STONEWALL STORIES is Carol Polcovar's award winning docudrama about the events surrounding the New York Police Department's actions at and around the notorious Stonewall Tavern on the night of June 27, 1969 and the ensuing birth of The Gay Rights Movement. STONEWALL STORIES will offer two performances: Wednesday, June 25 at 8:00PM & Saturday, June 28 at 2:00PM at the New York LGBT Community Center. A portion of every ticket sold will benefit Sylvia's Place the Metropolitan Community Church's shelter of homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual, transgender and questioning teenagers.
Poet, Playwright and activist Carol Polcovar spent two years interviewing veterans of the events surrounding the notorious Greenwich Gay bar on that hot summer night. The resulting script tells the story of that fateful night in the words of Gay Rights activists and Christopher Street legends Jeanne De Vente, Williamson Henderson, Rusty Rose and Tommy Schmidt as well as NYPD member Frank Toscano and our own Sylvia Rivera. Directed by acclaimed Gay Theatre veteran David Gaard, STONEWALL STORIES will leave you moved...and very, very proud.
