• The easiest way to donate to HYS is to make a donation via PayPal. (Please note that while your receipt will say "MCCNY," your donation goes to support the work of Homeless Youth Services and not the church. If you'd prefer, you can send these much needed items directly to the shelter, either through the links provided or your favorite online retail outlet.)

• HYS Needs for the week of 4/21/08-4/27/08 include:
  • toiletries. We always need: shampoo, deodorant, razors, toothbrushes and toothpaste. This week, we're especially in need of toothpaste and powder. (As a bonus, drugstore.com is offering free shipping on orders of $25 or more and, as always, your donation is tax-deductible!)
  • sponsors. We're still looking for people to sponsor youth for camp this summer - $90 will cover the cost of registration and transportation for one young person to attend Queer Spirit Camp for one week this July. To become a sponsor, use the PayPal link above (put "spirit camp sponsorship" in the comments section), or send your tax-deductible check to the address below.
  • sturdy stepladder. At Sylvia's Place, we have to store the young people's belongings overhead and we only have a rickety ladder.
  • USB to USB cable. We have a donated printer in the social work office, but it requires a long USB-USB connecting cable in order to work. If you've got an extra one, we could use it!
  • replacing stolen items - There was a burglary at the Marsha P Johnson Center the night of 4/21 and the stereo, dvd player and a computer were taken. And, unforutnately, we learned that our insurance doesn't cover this. So, we need to replace these items.
  • Stay up-to-date with the weekly emails on about HYS needs by signing up with our low-volume listserv. To sign up, send an email to Kate.
